Recruit using social networks: Facebook South Africa Stats
Before we get into the details of how one can use Facebook to recruit – its important to look more closely at certain breakdowns in the profile of South Africans on the popular social network.
Growth Overview – South African Population on Facebook :
Age Breakdown – South African Females on Facebook:
Age Breakdown – South African Males on Facebook:
Most are aware of a huge growth in Facebook over the past 2 years or so, and many sceptics have been predicting this to subside. If you look at the first graph you will be able to see very clearly that there is no sign of a drop in the number of locals joining Facebook – the opposite is in fact true.
The breakdown of males and females by age shows that in South Africa, the largest number of Facebook users are in the “18 – 25″ category, followed by the “26- 44″ category and then followed by the “35 – 44″ category. There are slightly more females on Facebook than males in South Africa but the difference is marginal.
There wouldn’t be any surprises with the above data, I think it just strengthens the point that when it comes to hiring of Generation Y and even Generation X – companies need to make sure that Facebook plays an important part of your sourcing strategy.
Next post we will look into how you can actually use the tools provided on Facebook for recruiting in your organisation.
